The Punjab government has issued a recall of two batches of medicines after drug-testing laboratories declared them substandard or adulterated.
A notice issued by the Directorate of Drug Control, Punjab, said the Provincial Quality Control Board had directed the recall following testing by the Drug Testing Laboratories Punjab.
The Directorate of Drug Control, Punjab (DDCP) issued the medicine recall under Alert No. 132/2026.
The recall applies to batch 176 of Injection Mecodax, Mecobalamin, Reg No.065622, with expiry date Aug 2027, and film-coated tablet, cetirizine dihydrochloride 10mg, Reg No.123852, Batch No. BCT-005, which has an expiry date of Feb 2027.
The notice directs manufacturers, market authorization holders and distributors to immediately recall the affected batches and complete the distribution-recall process.
Pharmacies, medical stores, wholesalers, distributors and healthcare facilities have also been instructed to stop dispensing the specified batches and report their stock and consumption records to the relevant drug inspectors.
Consumers and patients have been advised to stop using the affected batches immediately, as they may pose a health risk.
The authorities said manufacturers must also conduct a detailed root-cause analysis and prepare a Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) plan, with supporting documents submitted to the relevant drug-control authorities.
Anyone experiencing an adverse effect after using the affected medicines has been advised to report it through the Medicine Surveillance System.
