Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday visited the site of the Margalla Road–Motorway extension project, and directed that the Sangjani Interchange on GT Road be completed by July 31.

According to officials, the 2.7-kilometre-long project would feature a three-lane carriageway on both sides, along with a two-lane service road. The plan also included a GT Road interchange, two underpasses, and a bridge to ensure smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow.

The interior minister, during his visit, inspected ongoing construction activities and was given a detailed briefing on various components of the project.

Capital Development Authority Chairman, Islamabad Police Inspector General, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, and other senior officials were also present during the visit.

Naqvi directed authorities to ensure that the Sangjani Interchange on GT Road, part of the project, is completed by July 31. He emphasised that the new link would provide an alternative, faster, and more accessible route between Islamabad and the Motorway.

“All resources must be utilised to complete the project within the stipulated time,” the Interior Minister said, adding that quality, transparency, and speed were being ensured in all government projects.

Officials informed the minister that the project was expected to be completed by December 2026, while the remaining 2.5-kilometre section would be executed by the Punjab government.
