Police sources say she has reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation

LAHORE:

A judicial magistrate at the Model Town Courts in Lahore on Friday granted police a five-day physical remand of a woman accused of murdering her three minor children in an apartment in the Ichhra area on Thursday.

The suspect was produced before the court under strict security arrangements. During the hearing, investigating officers requested a 14-day physical remand to further interrogate the accused and complete the investigation into the triple murder case.

However, Judicial Magistrate Irshad Hussain, after hearing arguments from both sides, approved a five-day physical remand and handed the suspect over to police custody.

Initial investigations suggested that the mother is responsible for the killings. Police sources further stated that she has reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Investigators said the suspect’s relationship with her husband had deteriorated, and he allegedly used to taunt her. They added that she also had a heated exchange with her mother-in-law the night before the incident.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the emergency service received a call reporting that three children had been found dead in a residential building in the Shah Jamal area.

Rescue teams and police reached the scene, where they confirmed that five-year-old Momina Batool, four-year-old Momin Raza, and 18-month-old Amna Habiba had suffered fatal throat injuries allegedly caused by a sharp-edged weapon. Their bodies were shifted to a morgue after initial medico-legal formalities for post-mortem examination.

DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza said forensic teams had collected crucial evidence from the crime scene. He added that CCTV footage from surrounding buildings had also been secured as part of the investigation.
