ISLAMABAD:

Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) reduced its line losses to 9.80% in FY2025-26, down from 10.43% a year earlier, marking the first time the company has brought losses into single digits, according to a statement on Monday.

The improvement was accompanied by a recovery rate exceeding 100%, zero contribution to the national circular debt, and full, timely payments to the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G).

GEPCO generated savings of Rs5.2 billion during the year through accurate billing, enforcement against theft and defaulters, network expansion, new grid stations, and rehabilitation of overloaded feeders and transformers. The company also reduced meter replacement time to within one month.

The results follow policy reforms introduced by the Power Division, including continuous performance monitoring across all distribution companies (DISCOs), digitisation of billing systems, and clear directives on loss reduction and anti-theft enforcement. Federal Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has highlighted GEPCO’s performance as evidence that data-driven oversight and depoliticised governance are producing measurable gains.
