Ek Din, set to release on May 1 under Aamir Khan Productions, stars Junaid Khan, Sai Pallavi and Kunal Kapoor. The film, directed by Sneha Desai and Spandan Mishra, unveiled its trailer on Thursday and has since drawn criticism on social media over the storyline and acting.

The trailer opens with Khan’s character expressing his love for his colleague Meera through an inner monologue. He sees himself as unworthy of being with her and hopes to spend even one day by her side. The scene then shifts to a company trip in Japan, where the story takes a turn.

The plot follows a familiar path as the female lead is involved in an accident and the male protagonist steps in to save her. The story adds another common twist through memory loss, which leads to a brief romance between the two characters. The trailer ends soon after Meera discovering the truth and the relationship coming to an end.

Many viewers said the trailer appeared to combine elements from several films, leading them to question the originality of the story. Some compared it to 50 First Dates, a rom-com classic starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, due to the similar memory-loss angle, where the female lead forgets events each day.

Others said the trailer looked like an adaptation of One Day, which was released in 2016.

Several viewers also said the trailer revealed too much of the story, asking what remains to be seen. Others still questioned why more realistic plots were not being explored.

Some urged filmmakers to create fresh stories instead of relying on remakes and repeated ideas.

Fans also criticised Khan’s acting, asking why he continues to receive lead roles. Others described his casting as an example of nepotism.

Despite the backlash, the trailer continues to generate online discussion ahead of the film’s release next month.
