Increase will apply to consumers of both K-E and the Discos carved out of the former Wapda system

ISLAMABAD:

Electricity consumers will shoulder an additional Rs9.8 billion in their August bills after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved a fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of 75 paisa per unit for electricity consumed in June, although the regulator substantially pared back an earlier demand for a Rs1.20 per unit increase.

The latest adjustment will take the average fuel cost impact in August to around 41 paisa per unit higher than July, when consumers were charged an FCA of Rs0.34 per unit.

The increase will apply to consumers of both K-E and the Discos carved out of the former Wapda system.

In its notification, Nepra said the positive FCA for June 2026 had been determined at Rs0.7503 per kWh and would be recovered through Aug 2026 bills.

The adjustment will apply to all relevant consumer categories, including those covered by the incremental consumption package, while lifeline consumers, electric vehicle charging stations and prepaid electricity consumers will remain exempt.

Discos and K-E have been directed to reflect the June FCA in consumers’ bills during the August billing cycle. Fuel cost adjustments are reviewed every month under the tariff regime applicable across the country and are generally passed on to consumers for one billing month.
