JHELUM:
Police in Jhelum arrested a woman accused of impersonating the chairperson of the Punjab Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell in an alleged attempt to obtain official protocol and privileges.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiq Ahmed Chaudhry, the suspect, identified as Mehnaz Saeed, introduced herself as a senior government official and attempted to influence local police authorities by claiming to hold a high-ranking position.
He said officers at the City Police Station became suspicious of her claims and initiated verification.
Police subsequently contacted the Punjab Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell, which reportedly denied any association with the woman and advised authorities to take legal action against individuals falsely claiming affiliation with the office.
The case took a further turn when police searched the vehicle the suspect was using. According to police, a substantial quantity of liquor was recovered from the vehicle during the search.
Investigators found the woman’s claims regarding her official status to be false and fabricated during the inquiry. DPO Chaudhry said a case had been registered against the suspect and further investigations were underway.
He warned that impersonating government officials or using fake official identities to obtain protocol, benefits or privileges constitutes a serious offence and would be dealt with strictly under the law.
