Weekly inflation rose by 0.15% during the second week of August 2026, taking the year-on-year rate to 9.11%, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) weekly inflation report.

Prices of 20 items increased over the week, nine became cheaper, while 22 remained stable out of 51 essential commodities tracked.

Onion prices registered a sharp weekly increase of 24.68%, while gram pulse rose 3.35% and chicken became costlier by 2.45%. LPG prices edged up by 0.67%. Tea, mustard oil, yoghurt and masoor also became more expensive.

Petrol prices recorded a notable weekly decline of 2.35%. Tomatoes fell 1.26%, potatoes 0.73%, and diesel 0.29%. Bananas, moong dal, eggs and sugar also decreased.

On a year-on-year basis, tomato prices surged by 143.77%, onions by 125.75%, and wheat flour by 77.41%. LPG increased 55.41%, diesel 34.05%, and petrol 23.02%.

However, potato prices declined by 30% annually, while sugar dropped 17.93% and chicken 17.45%. Gram pulse, eggs and moong dal also recorded yearly declines.
