QUETTA:

Prominent elders of the Barich National Jirga have voiced grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the provincial capital, reporting that 21 citizens, including five members of the Barich tribe, have been killed in Quetta within a single month.

Address a press conference at the Quetta Press Club on Friday, tribal leaders including Wadood Jamal Barich, Sardar Abdul Ghayas Barich, Sardar Habib Barich, Wali Barich, Haji Sarwar Barich, and Haji Muhammad Ali Barich said the killings were deeply tragic and demanded immediate action from authorities.

“The provincial government, police, and law enforcement agencies must fulfill their responsibilities and ensure the protection of people’s lives and property,” they stated.

The elders highlighted that insecurity is escalating daily in Quetta, with a persistent wave of thefts, robberies, murders, and lawlessness. “In the past month alone, 21 citizens have been killed in broad daylight in Quetta. Among them are five members of our tribe, Hafiz Sadaat Barich, Ameen Khan Barich, Hameedullah Khan Barich, Tahir Khan Barich, and Abdul Wahab Barich,” they added.

They further pointed out that the suspects involved in the killing of two tribe members, including a police officer, have yet to be arrested, raising serious questions over police performance.

“It is the duty of the government and police to safeguard the lives and property of the people,” the Jirga elders asserted.

They demanded the immediate arrest of the killers and effective control over criminal activities in Quetta to ensure public safety. “If the government fails to act, we will announce a future course of action in consultation with the public,” they warned.
