Punjab government has extended for 30 days a ban on flying drones in open spaces across the province under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, citing security concerns.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restriction will remain in force until June 24.

A spokesperson for the department said the decision had been taken in view of prevailing security concerns and the need to maintain public safety, law and order, and protection of property across the province.

The notification states that the ban applies to the operation of drones in open areas throughout Punjab.

However, limited use of small drones will be allowed inside halls and marquees during private events and ceremonies.

The spokesperson clarified that organisers of indoor events would be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of drones within their premises and for complying with all applicable safety protocols.

The home department has exempted intelligence and law enforcement agencies from the restrictions, allowing them to use drones for official duties and operational requirements.

Officials said the measure was aimed at preventing potential security threats and ensuring public safety during the period.

The department directed district administrations and police to ensure strict implementation of the orders and take action against violations in accordance with the law.
