LAHORE:
Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz Aein-e-Pakistan (TTAP), during a meeting in Lahore, vowed to channel all its energies towards restoring communication channels with former prime minister Imran Khan, while also expressing concern over deepening divisions within the PTI.
The TTAP meeting, attended by four constituent parties in the provincial capital, primarily focused on ramping up political activities across the country to build pressure on the government and other stakeholders for securing visitation rights for the imprisoned former prime minister and ensuring proper medical treatment for his eye condition.
PTI, according to sources, has agreed to fully support TTAP’s efforts to engage with intermediaries in the government to lift restrictions on meetings.
Sources said efforts were also made to address concerns raised by Imran Khan’s sisters regarding the current PTI leadership. They were reportedly advised to sit with party leaders to resolve grievances and address misunderstandings.
It was further revealed that the PTI founder’s sisters had earlier expressed concerns about the party leadership and criticised its failure to secure justice for him during a recent online discussion on a microblogging platform.
The meeting, co-hosted by PTI’s Shayan Bashir and Ammar Ali Jan of the Haqooq-e-Khalq Party, was attended by representatives of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Sindh Awami Party, PTI, and the Haqooq-e-Khalq Party.
Participants acknowledged growing distrust among different PTI factions, noting that internal discord was hampering the alliance’s efforts to achieve its objective of securing Imran Khan’s release.
It was also decided to initiate countrywide political engagement in the form of rallies, seminars, and discussions. These activities will remain non-confrontational and will not include any agitation movement. The political strategy will be further refined in an upcoming meeting in Islamabad, which will include all nine constituent parties of the alliance.
It is pertinent to mention that TTAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai had earlier said during a press conference that rallies would be held across the country in a peaceful manner. However, he warned that if treated in the same manner as PTI’s D-Chowk, TLP, or other groups during their peaceful gatherings, it could lead to unrest. When later asked for details of the protest plan, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and Achakzai clarified that participation in Labour Day events and the Lahore meeting were part of ongoing political activities.
Achakzai also clarified that TTAP had scaled down its activities in view of the Iran conflict and Pakistan’s mediation efforts, which led to misconceptions about internal discord. He said the alliance stood with Imran Khan and his party, adding that they considered his sisters as their own. He further stated that TTAP would resist any attempt to pursue a “minus Imran Khan” formula, if such an effort existed.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja echoed the sentiment, saying there was no concept of PTI or politics in Pakistan without Imran Khan, calling any such idea “ludicrous”.
TTAP spokesperson Akhundzada Hussain told The Express Tribune that the alliance aims to create political space for the opposition through constructive engagement with all segments of society.
