Filmmaker Saman Kamran, whose work often explores social and environmental issues, also made the list. Her short film The Bed She Made was the only Pakistani project selected for the Busan International Short Film Festival, where it examined the intersection of climate change and fertility challenges in Pakistan.

Saman had previously worked as an assistant director on Umro Ayyar, A New Beginning.

Last year, Pakistan did not have any representatives in the list’s entertainment category. However, Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem was among the country’s notable inclusions for his athletic achievements.

Previous Pakistani honourees also include filmmaker Bushra Sultan in 2024, Rastah founder Zain Ahmad in 2022, artist Misha Japanwala in 2021, and singer Momina Mustehsan in 2018.
