Afghanistan will face India in a three-match T20I series in Delhi from September 13 to 17, with all three matches scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as part of the teams’ Future Tours Programme.

The series will further strengthen the growing cricketing relationship between the two nations, with Afghanistan continuing to host their home fixtures in India in recent years. The two sides have regularly met across formats, building a competitive rivalry while maintaining close cricketing ties.

The first T20I will be played on September 13, followed by the second match on September 15. The series will conclude with the third T20I on September 17.

India and Afghanistan most recently met in a three-match ODI series in June 2026, when India completed a 3-0 clean sweep. Afghanistan will be looking to put up a stronger challenge in the shortest format when the two teams meet again in September.

Afghanistan are currently involved in a five-match ODI series against Ireland and have already secured two victories. Meanwhile, India are preparing to resume their ICC World Test Championship campaign against Sri Lanka, with the first Test scheduled to begin on August 15.

Afghanistan Cricket Board chairman Mirwais Ashraf described the upcoming series as an important milestone for Afghanistan cricket and praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for its continued support.

“This series holds great significance for Afghanistan cricket and represents another important step in the development of our longstanding relationship with the BCCI,” Ashraf said.

He added that playing a bilateral series against India in India was a significant achievement for Afghanistan cricket and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between the two boards.

“Hosting India for a bilateral series in India is a significant milestone for us, and we highly value the cooperation and support of the BCCI in making this event possible,” he said.

The three-match series is expected to provide both teams with valuable T20I preparation while further deepening the cricketing partnership between Afghanistan and India.
