QUETTA:

Senior leaders from the Balochistan government and opposition met in Quetta on Friday to discuss madrassa registration and the broader political situation in the province, agreeing to continue engagement through dialogue.

The official delegation was headed by Provincial Home Minister Zia Ullah Langau and included Provincial Ministers Mir Ali Madad Jatak and Mir Barkat Rind along with other representatives.

Opposition leaders included JUI-F Balochistan chief Maulana Abdul Wasey, Balochistan Assembly Opposition Leader Mir Younis Aziz Zehri, PAC Chairman Asghar Tareen, MPA Syed Zafar Agha, MNA Usman Badini and several other political figures.

Sources familiar with the meeting said participants exchanged views on matters relating to religious seminaries, registration procedures and the overall political atmosphere in Balochistan.

The two sides also expressed willingness to maintain communication to address concerns through mutual understanding.

Speaking during the meeting, Home Minister Langau said religious seminaries have historically contributed to Islamic education and played an important role in producing scholars and memorizers of the Holy Quran.

He said madrassas have long served as institutions that strengthened unity among Muslims.

He said Balochistan reflects the coexistence of multiple ethnic and religious communities and stressed the importance of harmony and political cooperation in the province. Jatak said the government’s position regarding madrassa-related matters should be understood in its proper context.

He said the provincial administration believes in taking political and religious stakeholders into confidence before moving forward on important issues.

The minister said the government delegation’s visit to opposition leaders demonstrated a serious effort to resolve matters through discussion and political engagement.
