KARACHI:

The metropolis witnessed a hot and humid day on Sunday as the mercury shot up to 38.1°C, showing an uptick in temperature from the previous day, while high humidity made conditions feel even warmer, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.

According to the weatherman, weather remained hot and humid throughout the day with a gradual rise in temperature. The humidity level, combined with rising heat, increased the overall discomfort for residents.

The PMD reported that the maximum temperature was recorded at 38.1°C, which is 2.6°C above the April normal. Humidity was recorded at 41 per cent, while the heat index – how hot it actually felt – reached around 40°C.

The Early Warning Centre forecast said the metropolis is expected to remain relatively hot over the next few days, with temperatures likely to go beyond 36°C.

A PMD spokesperson clarified that there is no likelihood of a heatwave during the current spell of warm weather. He also ruled out the presence of any high-pressure system affecting conditions or disrupting sea breezes.

He added that the rise in temperature is part of the normal seasonal pattern, as April is typically a hot month in Karachi.
