Official says ambassador-level talks between Israel and Lebanon will now take place at the White House

The ambassadors of Lebanon and Israel will meet at the White House, and will be greeted on arrival by President Donald Trump, a US official confirmed Thursday.

“The ambassador-level talks between Israel and Lebanon will now take place at the White House. President Trump will greet the representatives upon their arrival,” a White House official told Anadolu.

The meeting is expected to begin at 4 pm local time (2100GMT). It was originally scheduled to take place at the State Department, but was changed hours before it was slated to start.

It is unclear who will participate from the US delegation. Still, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who doubles as Trump’s national security advisor, were spotted entering the White House.

Before the change of venue, the State Department said the US delegation would include US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa.

The meeting is the second between Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Moawad and Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter in as many weeks amid a tenuous ceasefire. The countries, which lack formal diplomatic relations, held their first round of talks in more than 30 years on April 14 at the State Department.

A US-brokered 10-day ceasefire, which went into effect April 16, is slated to expire Sunday.

More than 2,200 people have been killed, and over 1 million displaced by expanded Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2, soon after the start of a war against Iran that was initiated by the US and Israel. The attacks have continued despite a 10-day US-mediated ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon that was agreed on April 16.
