LAHORE: As many as 57 confirmed cases of dengue were reported across Punjab in the month of September, ARY News reported.

The highest number of cases, 22, were reported in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.

On the other hand, 14 cases were reported in Lahore, while three cases each were reported in Chakwal, Multan, and Rahim Yar Khan.

Two cases each were reported in Attock, Gujranwala, and Muzaffargarh.

One case each was reported in DG Khan, Faisalabad, Nankana Sahib, Okara, Pakpattan, and Sialkot.

The health department says that adequate measures are in place to tackle the outbreak, including a sufficient supply of medicine in public hospitals.

To tackle the situation, authorities issued an advisory urging residents to maintain clean, dry environments to curb the spread of the dengue virus.

The public was also encouraged to cooperate with health teams working to contain the outbreak. A dedicated helpline (1033) has been set up for those seeking treatment or wanting to register complaints regarding dengue.

What is Dengue Virus?
The virus that causes dengue fever infects people when they are bitten by infected mosquitoes. Mosquitoes that carry Aedes aegypti and, to a lesser amount, The disease is mostly spread by Ae. albopictus mosquitoes. Dengue virus is the name of the virus that causes dengue fever.

High fever up to 104°F (40°C)
Severe headache and pain behind the eyes
Muscle, bone, or joint pain (often called “break-bone fever”)
Nausea, vomiting, and skin rash

Dengue Treatment

There is no specific medication for dengue fever. Vaccines against dengue disease are still being developed. Right now, the best ways to prevent disease in areas where dengue fever is endemic are to avoid mosquito bites and take steps to reduce the mosquito population.
