The Punjab government has issued an alert after a batch of veterinary medicine was declared spurious by the Drug Testing Laboratory, Punjab.
The Directorate of Drug Control, Punjab (DDCP) issued the medicine alert under Alert No. 130/2026.
The prompt alert concerns Powder for Injection Penivet-5, batch number VL-039, with an expiry date of January 2027.
According to the notice, each vial contains: Benzyl Penicillin 5,000,000 IU, Procaine Benzyl Penicillin 1,500,000 IU, Streptomycin Sulphate 5 g, and Registration number: 008032
The Drug Testing Laboratory, Punjab, has classified the product as “spurious” under Section 3(a) (ii) of the Drugs Act, 1976.
The Provincial Quality Control Board has directed retailers, veterinary outlets, wholesalers, distributors, and animal healthcare facilities to immediately stop dispensing the affected batch.
They have also been instructed to report existing stock and consumption details to the relevant Drug Inspector or Drug Inspector Distributor.
The notice calls on drug regulators to strengthen surveillance, maintain an audit trail through supply chains and confiscate the product where necessary.
Market authorization holders, importers and distributors have been told to review their supply chains and distribution records. Any suspected unauthorized activity or irregularity is to be reported immediately.
The public has been advised to stop using the affected batch immediately and to monitor animals for any abnormal signs or effects.
