LAHORE:

Pakistan Railways has temporarily suspended operations of eight trains across various sections due to rising fuel costs and declining passenger numbers.

The affected trains include Bolan Mail, Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, Mehran Express, Chaman Passenger, Marvi Express, Saman Sarkar Express, Moenjodaro Express, and Ravi Express.

A Pakistan Railways spokesperson stated that the suspension was necessitated by increased operational costs. “Train operations have been temporarily halted due to rising costs,” the spokesperson said, adding that services would be restored as soon as the situation stabilizes.

According to official sources, the recent increase in petroleum prices has significantly impacted the department’s ability to sustain train operations. The surge in fuel expenses, coupled with low passenger turnout on several routes, forced authorities to take cost-cutting measures.

They said the move is temporary, with services expected to resume once conditions improve. Railway authorities are closely monitoring fuel price trends and passenger demand before making further operational decisions.
