ISLAMABAD:

Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah has once again invited the opposition for talks. Speaking during the Senate session on Monday, Sanaullah said political issues could be resolved through dialogue.

“A formal meeting [between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and NA leader of opposition] could also take place if needed,” he added. He claimed that former prime minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are being provided the best possible medical facilities at Adiala Jail, where the couple is detained.

The Senate met on Monday under the chairmanship of Yousaf Raza Gillani and discussed a wide range of legislative, political, and human rights issues. Several important bills were introduced and processed during the session.

Senator Sarmad Ali presented a bill related to amendments in the juvenile justice system, which was referred to the relevant standing committee for further consideration.

Senator Samina Zahri presented amendments concerning consumer protection in Islamabad and a bill related to monitoring the city’s health system. Both were referred to committees.

The house unanimously passed a bill relating to amendments in courts, while another bill aimed at protecting the rights of persons with disabilities was also approved unanimously. Members termed it a positive step towards social welfare and inclusivity.

During the session, differences between Senator Nasir Butt and Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi were also discussed. The Senate chairman assigned Rana Sanaullah the task of resolving the matter through dialogue after hearing both sides.

Speaking on the floor, Senator Ali Zafar said the identity of any society lies not in its buildings or slogans but in its justice system.
