Sindh Rangers, based on intelligence, arrested a gang leader involved in multiple robberies and street crime incidents in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony area on Friday, according to an official statement.

The press release issued by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) identified the suspect as Nauman Ahmed alias “papa”, son of Zahoor Ahmed, described as the head of the “Papa gang”, who was taken into custody. Two snatched mobile phones and one motorcycle were recovered from his possession.

“The suspect, along with accomplices, had been involved in numerous incidents of robbery, street crime, firing, police encounters, and snatching of motorcycles and mobile phones across Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Malir and adjoining areas, as well as in parts of Punjab,” it added.

The statement further mentioned that the suspect was involved in approximately 200 to 250 robbery incidents, snatching of 40 to 50 motorcycles, 300 to 400 mobile phones, and cash worth around Rs5 to 6 million.

According to the arrested suspect, he was injured in a police encounter in Bhains Colony and managed to escape during a police encounter in Shah Faisal Colony.

The suspect was a habitual offender who had previously been arrested in Punjab on robbery charges. Multiple cases have been registered against him in police stations in Karachi and Punjab, the statement added.

“Two of his accomplices have already been arrested by Rangers and sent to jail, while efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the group,” it added.

“The suspect has been handed over to the police along with the recovered items for further legal proceedings,” the statement added.
