Responds to Firdous Jamal’s recent remarks, criticises declining professional ethics
In a video shared on her YouTube channel, Bushra Ansari expressed her displeasure and frustration over fellow actor Firdous Jamal’s recent remarks about colleagues in the industry. Known for her candid opinions and straightforward manner, Ansari disapproved of Jamal’s comments, saying he had crossed a line with his statements.
She added that while it is her firm belief that it is difficult to find mediocre actors in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, it is not something she would ever choose to declare publicly. She further said that it is the responsibility of directors to guide actors and help them improve their craft, adding that insulting colleagues over their performances, especially on social media, is inappropriate.
Without naming him directly and referring to him as an “accomplished actor,” Ansari criticised the use of words such as “selfish,” “showpiece,” and “mediocre,” saying they do not suit someone of his stature. She added that she would never make such remarks about a colleague, even if she disagreed with their work.
She also addressed Jamal’s comments regarding deceased artists, saying it is basic courtesy not to speak ill of the dead, adding, “That applies to all people.” Ansari also expressed her disapproval of the way late actors were described, particularly Talat Hussain, Abid Ali, and Shafi Muhammad. She further said, “ Saying that Khayyam Sarhadi couldn’t speak well; that Rahat Kazmi, may God keep him safe, was a showpiece, this is very bad.
Ansari urged Jamal to be mindful of the example he is setting for the younger generation, asking whether he wishes to be remembered in similar words. Describing the remarks as the height of bad manners, she advised him to reconsider his statements and their impact on the families of the deceased. She added, “Get a hold of yourself, please, get some rest.”
She also highlighted the importance of maintaining respect in interviews and podcasts, saying people have forgotten basic courtesy. The actor suggested taking inspiration from interviewers such as Khushbakht Shujaat, Obaidullah Baig, Mehtab Rashdi, and Tariq Aziz, praising their class and respect as both hosts and guests.
Ansari made these remarks following a recent interview of Jamals, in which he criticising several actors and colleagues while praising only Qavi Khan. This is not the first time the senior actor has faced backlash; remarks he made about Mahira Khan in a 2019 interview recently resurfaced, prompting many to condemn him for being ageist and sexist.
