The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to officials of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and others on a petition challenging the construction of an illegal seven-storey building in Lyari, allegedly completed within just 70 days.

The hearing was conducted on a petition filed by citizen Zahid Hussain regarding the illegal con-struction in the Agra Taj area of Lyari. The petitioner’s counsel argued that builders had unlaw-fully constructed the building at Plot No. 25.

According to the petition, the seven-storey structure was raised in just 70 days in violation of SBCA rules and other regulations. It was further claimed that substandard construction materi-als were used, raising serious safety concerns.

The petitioner’s lawyer informed the court that multiple complaints had been filed with the SBCA against the illegal construction, but no action was taken. He also pointed out that in the recent past, a building collapsed in Lyari’s Baghdadi area claiming 13 lives.

The petitioner requested the court to order the demolition of the illegal building and direct the SBCA to take immediate action against unlawful constructions.

After the hearing, the court issued notices to SBCA officials and other relevant parties, seeking their responses by August 26.

The petition names the Sindh government, SBCA, anti-encroachment department, land depart-ment, SBCA deputy directors Niaz Hussain Laghari and Kishan Chand, and builders Shah Jahan and Shah Nawaz as respondents.
