The Ministry of National Health Services has prohibited the sale of medicines at registered clinics without a valid drug sale licence in Islamabad, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The move has been taken in light of the Constitutional Court’s ruling.

As per the details, the health authorities have also decided to launch action against illegal medical stores and pharmacies operating in the federal capital. In this regard, the Ministry of National Health Services has issued a letter to the relevant institutions, directing them to take action against unauthorised medicine outlets.

The letter was issued by Sardar Shabbir Ahmed, Secretary of the Quality Control Board and Senior Drug Inspector at the Islamabad Health Department, to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA) and District Health Officer (DHO).

According to the letter, a valid drug sale licence is mandatory for the sale of medicines at registered clinics in Islamabad. The sale of medicines without a licence at registered clinics constitutes an offence, while licensed clinics may sell medicines only within the prescribed limits, it stated.
