Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has inked an agreement with Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana, to establish a Basic Life Support (BLS) training center in the city.
The center is intended to expand access to certified lifesaving skills for healthcare professionals in Larkana and other parts of upper Sindh.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat of DUHS. The agreement was signed by representatives of both universities, including DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nazli Hussain and SMBBMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nusrat Shah.
The new center will provide training in basic emergency procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), chest compressions, rescue breathing and maintaining an open airway.
DUHS said the center would allow doctors, nurses, paramedics, medical students and other healthcare workers in the region to receive standardized training without having to travel to other cities.
The university said the initiative could help improve the speed and effectiveness of emergency medical responses, particularly in cases of cardiac or respiratory arrest.
DUHS has been providing internationally certified healthcare training since 2010. According to the university, more than 25,000 healthcare professionals have been trained in lifesaving skills through its programs.
The Larkana center is expected to increase the number of trained healthcare workers in Sindh, where access to certified emergency training has been limited in some areas.
DUHS has also expanded access to standardized medical training by establishing training centers and training locations in different parts of the country.
Officials from both institutions said the partnership would support professional development and improve the availability of lifesaving skills in the region.
They said the initiative could also provide a basis for expanding certified healthcare training to other parts of Sindh.
The agreement is part of DUHS’s wider program to make standardized medical training more accessible across Pakistan and develop a healthcare workforce better prepared to respond to medical emergencies.
