Minister visits PSO to explore measures to diversify supply sources, strengthen reserves

KARACHI:

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik on Friday visited the head office of Pakistan State Oil (PSO), where they explored a coordinated set of measures to safeguard the domestic energy market through proactive international procurement, long-term diversification of supply sources and the strengthening of strategic reserves.

Secretary Petroleum Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh and Additional Secretary (Policy) Zafar Abbas accompanied the minister. The delegation was received by PSO Chief Executive Officer Jawwad Ahmed Cheema, together with members of the executive management team.

“The visit reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening national energy readiness at a time of heightened global uncertainty and PSO’s central role in securing the country’s fuel supply,” said a statement.

The minister reviewed the company’s work on energy security and retail modernisation, and commended PSO for its resilience in maintaining an uninterrupted nationwide fuel supply chain amid complex geopolitical headwinds.

Discussions covered the evolving international environment, including volatile global fuel prices and disruptions to key maritime corridors. Responding to the operational updates, the minister assured PSO of the government’s support for fostering a balanced energy ecosystem that placed consumer interest and economic stability at its core.

He reaffirmed the commitment to expanding the storage infrastructure, accelerating digitisation and automation, enhancing supply chain resilience and continuously elevating customer experience. The minister emphasised that all sector stakeholders must work together under a shared vision to build a modern, resilient energy sector.

PSO CEO Cheema briefed the delegation on the company’s financial results, recent operational milestones and plans for the years ahead. “PSO, as the country’s national oil marketing company, remains committed to raising industry standards and delivering reliable, sustainable energy to support Pakistan’s growth,” the statement added.
