The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide alert warning of rising river flows, flash floods and urban flooding in several parts of the country as monsoon rains are expected to intensify over the next three days.

The authority said significant increases in water levels are expected in major rivers and seasonal streams, raising the risk of localised flooding. It advised provincial and district administrations to remain on high alert and ensure precautionary measures are in place to minimise the impact of any emergency.

According to the NDMA, a moderate flood continues at Guddu on the Indus River, while low-level flooding persists at Kalabagh, Chashma and Sukkur. In the Chenab River, water flows are expected to range from moderate to high at Marala, while Khanki and Qadirabad are likely to experience low to moderate flows.

The authority said the Jhelum, Ravi and Kabul rivers, along with their tributaries, are also expected to witness low to moderate flows. It warned that streams connected to the Jhelum, Chenab and Ravi rivers could experience a significant increase in water levels during the forecast period.

Hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur are also likely to carry heavy flows, while flash flooding is expected in seasonal streams across central and southern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and northern Balochistan.

The NDMA said there is a risk of flooding in streams flowing through Mohmand, Bajaur, Buner, Mardan, Kurram, South Waziristan, Shangla and Peshawar districts of K-P. In northern Balochistan, flash floods could occur in the Nari, Bolan, Kangri and Lehri rivers.

The authority also warned of urban flooding and inundation of low-lying areas in several Punjab cities, including Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Lahore, Okara, Sahiwal and Faisalabad.

Similar conditions are expected in Sindh, where Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Mithi, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar and Tharparkar could experience urban flooding and water accumulation in low-lying neighbourhoods.

The NDMA further warned that Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda and Mardan could also face urban flooding as rainfall continues.

Urging the public to remain vigilant, the authority advised people to avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone areas and warned that monsoon conditions significantly increase the risk of landslides, debris flows and flash floods in mountainous regions. Travellers were urged to check weather forecasts and road conditions before setting out and to postpone non-essential journeys if heavy rain or official warnings are in effect.
